Newsletter July 3, 2026
Dear Church Family and Friends,
We now live in the age of AI. Screens and digital technologies now integrate into nearly every area of our lives. And yet, we seem to be experiencing a renaissance of pre-2000 experiences.
Just this week, Laura and I went to concerts in the park, and as the musicians finished their set, they invited the audience to purchase some of their CDs at their merchandise table! A few days ago, we were at a pool where teenagers were selecting rock music from the 80s and 90s, on purpose! And then, after the United States defeated Bosnia in the World Cup, nearly 70,000 people joined their voices to sing John Denver's 1971 hit, "Take Me Home Country Roads."
What's next? Are we going to see a revival of corded phones in our homes!?
One thing that I have noticed over the past few years is a major revival of print media. In the past decade, Christian book sales have nearly doubled! Some are calling this the "Golden Age" of Christian literature. Why is this?
I think it is because the Bible is still the best book in the world, and it is also still an amazing piece of technology to pack 66 books and over 750,000 words into one volume. A bound book is still a wonderful, useful invention. I, for one, much prefer to read on actual paper than a screen. To retreat into a printed book is a much-needed discipline in our digital age.
Another thing that I remember, even into my young adulthood, was the newspaper. I can remember the morning ritual of making my way to the end of the driveway to retrieve the day's news. As the internet developed more and more in the early 2000s, news and other information that we daily relied on moved online. We quickly realized that the clutter of magazines and newspapers could quickly fill up a room.
To capture some of this "new" magic, Sola Media, a multimedia organization dedicated to providing global resources grounded in the historic Christian faith and the five Solas of the Reformation, has started to produce a quarterly newspaper to encourage Christians in their faith. They promise that "inside every issue, you'll find articles on theology, historic confessions, and reflections for the Christian life — delivered straight to your mailbox."
I'm enjoying this new resource, and I would encourage you to check it out and join the "old school" revival. Sign up for it here! And while you are at it, put on a vinyl and enjoy some good music!
-----
I also want to mention RYM, which will be happening next week. Every summer, our high school students, along with scores of other churches around the country, descend upon Panama City Beach, Florida, to be encouraged in God's Word and to enjoy fellowship in the Lord's beautiful creation. Please be praying for our leaders and students as they experience this wonderful opportunity to grow in their faith and fellowship with other believers.
See you Sunday!
by His grace and to His praise,
Pastor Wilson
