Dear Cornerstone Family:

This Sunday begins Holy Week, the week we remember Jesus' last week on earth over 2000 years ago when he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, suffered and died on the cross on Good Friday, and then triumply rose from the dead on resurrection Sunday!

This Sunday, Good Friday, and Easter Sunday, we will take a break from our sermon series on the Lord's Prayer to look at several psalms that point to the work that Jesus our Messiah would do as He comes to save His people from their sin. Hosanna in the highest!

Psalm 118 will be our first Psalm of the Messiah on Palm Sunday. Martin Luther called this his favorite psalm! He once said, “This is my own beloved psalm. Although the entire Psalter and all of Holy Scripture are dear to me as my only comfort and source of life, I fell in love with this psalm especially. Therefore, I call it my own. When emperors and kings, the wise and the learned, and even saints could not aid me, this psalm proved a friend and helped me out of many great troubles. … Would to God that all the world would claim this psalm for its own, as I do!”

This Sunday is also Communion Sunday, as it is the second Sunday of the month. It is our custom that before we take the Lord's Supper, we recite a creed together. Normally, it is the Apostle's Creed. Have you ever thought about how over half of the Creed has to do with the last week of Jesus' life? ... Consider as you prepare your hearts this coming Lord's Day how important this Creed is in pointing us to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ!

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended into hell.

The third day he rose again from the dead.

He ascended into heaven

and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.

From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

Hosanna in the highest! See you Sunday!

by His grace and to His praise,

Pastor Wilson

Preparation for Worship

April 13, 2025

This Sunday's Sermon:

Psalms of the Messiah: The Messiah King

Psalm 118:22-29

On Easter, we will be introducing a hymn that will be new to some of you called "Christus Victor" by the Gettys. We will sing it as an offertory on Palm Sunday and then will sing it together congregationally Easter Sunday and beyond. It is a wonderful hymn highlighting the Kingship of Christ. In the sermons, we will hear from the Psalms how Jesus is the Messiah King (Psalm 118), the Forsaken King (Psalm 22) and the Glorious King (Psalm 24). This hymn will help us as we sing these wonderful truths!
