Dear Church Family and Friends,
Today is a day that many of us will never forget. It's hard to believe that the terrorist attack on 9/11 was 25 years ago. That day has truly shaped a generation.
There are many biblical lessons for us to learn from this day, as perhaps it was the first time that many of us experienced fear and evil on a national level.
Evil is real. We live in a fallen, broken world. Even though we may not be experiencing evil and suffering in the moment, the truth is, evil and horror are all around us every day. The scale is just different. If we truly consider the evil of our world when it comes to war, abortion, drugs, and human trafficking, the effects of sin on our world are very palpable. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. (Ephesians 6:12 ESV)
We need a Rescuer. Our fallen, broken world is the world into which our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, entered to rescue and redeem us. Jesus cares about our suffering for He suffered and died for us. God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea." Psalm 46:1-2 ESV)
We need a better country. Sin, suffering, evil- it all reminds us that we long for a better place, a better country. Jesus will return to make all things new, and there will one day be no more evil. But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city. (Hebrews 11:16 ESV)
May God help us to wisely reflect on this day and remember that the world needs Jesus! And so do we!
But until He returns, let's gather this Lord's Day to worship and remember His death and resurrection for our redemption.

Pray for church members caring for family - Susan Dupré, Emily Hinson, Kyle Mosier, Paul Poppe, Sarah Robins Powell, Kim Sweatt, Paul and Christina Wendorf.
Pray for healing - Suzi Bolton, Dawn Chenault, Tim and Gayle Ricks, Libby Stanfield, Steve Sedlack, and Annette Sweatt.
Pray for our homebound friends - Betty Baldwin and Suzi Bolton.
Pray for engaged couples that they will choose patience, forgiveness, and selfless love daily, making the Lord the center of their relationship (Col. 3:14, Ecc. 4:9, 12 ESV).

Pray for our engaged couples - that their marriages would be Gospel-centered.
Pray for our nursery ministry - that parents would seek the Lord as they train up their children (Proverbs 22:6 ESV).

Announcements
Communion - We will observe communion this Sunday, September 13.
Luke5 Hike - Saturday, September 12, at Madison County Nature Trail, Green Mountain. Hike begins at 9 am; Sherpas arrive by 8:45 am.
Foundations - Continues Wednesday, September 16, with a fellowship meal at 5:30 pm in the Family Life Center, followed by discipleship opportunities for all ages from 6:15-7:15 pm. Nursery is provided. RSVP for dinner here! Please RSVP by noon on Monday, September 14.
Children (K-5th) - Catechism. Led by Mary Cooper and volunteers.
Youth (6th-12th Grade) - Ten Commandments. Led by Pastor Chris and volunteers.
Adults - God’s Big Picture, Tracing the Storyline of the Bible. Led by Pastor John and Pastor Brian.
Women - Joshua by Jen Wilkin.
Men’s Oktoberfest Fall Dinner - Registration closes on Thursday, September 17! Men, join us on Sunday, September 20, for our annual Fall Men’s Dinner. We’ll have an authentic Oktoberfest dinner! Our theme is A Man's Call to Be Tough-Minded and Tender-Hearted. We’ll hear from Rick Stark, Associate Pastor at Decatur PCA, and enjoy a time of fellowship. All men, high school-aged and up, are welcome to join us; invite a friend! Register online today!
