Newsletter November 6, 2026
Dear Cornerstone Family:
As we enter the season of Thanksgiving and Christmas, we have the blessing of partnering with several of our missions partners to provide food and gifts to encourage those in need. I would like to highlight a few of those opportunities as we are collecting items the next few weeks!
Downtown Rescue Mission- The Downtown Rescue Mission exists to offer Help and Hope — help to overcome hunger, homelessness, addiction and abuse, and eternal hope that can only be found in Jesus Christ. At the DRM, there is a food pantry that they have requested assistance with stocking. They have provided a barrel that is in the Gathering Room. Some of the items they are requesting are cans of corn and green beans, stuffing, and similar items. We will continue to collect items the next few Sundays.
The Forgotten Initiative- The Forgotten Initiative helps churches support foster care agencies in Madison County. There are two opportunities to come alongside them in this important ministry. This year we are once again partnering with TFI to provide Christmas gifts for local foster children. A Christmas tree with wish list tags is in the Gathering Room. You can select a tag for a gift and sign up with the volunteer who is by the tree on Sundays. You can bring the gifts back by Sunday, November 29. This is a wonderful way to encourage foster children and their families at Christmas. There is also a Christmas brunch for social workers at Madison County DHR on Tuesday, December 1. Please contact Kathy Slaten (kate.slate@me.com) if you can help serve there.
Collections for HAP and Alabama A&M Food Pantry- We have ongoing, year round collection baskets for two ministries that we partner with in the community. HAP (Huntsville Assistance Program) collects items for their emergency food pantry. See their current list of needs HERE. RUF at Alabama A&M assists the university with the Bulldog Pantry, which has ongoing need of canned goods, packaged snacks, detergent and hygiene items.
InFocus Thanksgiving Dinner Hosts- InFocus is a ministry to international students at UAH. Each year, InFOCUS works to connect international students with families for Thanksgiving. If you are interested in hosting one or more international students this Thanksgiving, please contact Seth Waldecker at seth@paradigms.net.
Manna House- On Thursday afternoons, there is an ongoing opportunity to serve at the Manna House, feeding meals to those in need.
College Exam Bags- Another opportunity this season is to encourage our college students by donating to their college exam bags, which are assembled by the Women's ministry. Please view the sign up for ways you can contribute. There will be a collection box in the Gathering Room - deadline Tues. Nov. 17th. If you have a college student, bags will be available for pickup in the Gathering Room Sunday the 22nd and 29th. Sign up here!
As we give to support our missions partners, let us give thanks to our God for them and lift them up in prayer together. See you Sunday!
Pastor Brian
