Newsletter October 30, 2026
Dear Church Family and Friends,
As announced last week, we will hold a congregational meeting this Sunday, November 1st, during the Sunday School hour. All members are encouraged to attend and vote, and guests are welcome to observe.
To help us pray and prepare, here is a brief overview of Cornerstone's journey to our current property:
- 2012–2013: Cornerstone began meeting in 2012 and was particularized in May 2013. We then began searching for a permanent church home.
- 2018–2020: In 2018, we purchased property on Meridian Street. However, the 2020 pandemic and rising construction costs led us to pause those building plans.
- Spring 2021: We toured the former Mountain View Baptist Church property at 1413 McClung Ave., which had been significantly improved by Clements Baptist Church. After prayer and a congregational vote, we purchased the location.
- Phase 0 (2021): Thanks to the dedicated efforts and volunteer hours of our congregation, initial preparations were completed for our first services in September 2021.
- Phase 1: After deciding to make this our permanent home, the congregation voted to redirect building funds toward property improvements. This included remodeling the sanctuary to expand seating, renovating the Gathering Room, adding an accessible rear entrance, updating the restrooms, expanding parking, adding a new entrance, addressing drainage, and building a new playground.
- Phase 2: Planning began two years ago to update other areas of the building, including replacing the original 1960s windows to improve energy efficiency.
- Future Planning: A potential Phase 2.5 is currently being considered to modify the Family Life Center for ministry and fellowship.
This history leads to our congregational meeting this Sunday. The Session wants to keep the congregation fully informed and seek approval for this significant investment in our church property.
Please continue to pray for our leaders, architects, contractors, and church body as we move forward in faith.
See you Sunday!
by His grace and to His praise,
Pastor Wilson
