Newsletter December 19, 2025

Dear Church Family and Friends,

This Sunday marks the fourth and final Sunday of Advent. On Wednesday evening, we will gather for our annual service of Lessons and Carols. This will be a fantastic way for us to round out the Advent season as we reflect on the incarnation of Christ. O Come, Let Us Adore Him!

As we end the year and naturally begin to think about goals for the new year, I hope that, as part of your planning, dreaming, and preparing, you are also considering spiritual goals. In what ways do you hope to grow in your walk with the Lord this new year?

Many of us have started with very ambitious goals, like reading the Bible through in a year! Many of us have mastered Genesis chapters 1-12 for this reason! Let me encourage you to set manageable goals for the new year to help you grow in your walk with Jesus. Here are some ideas:

  • Make corporate worship on the Lord's Day a priority for you and your family. There are countless stories and endless testimonials about how God has been using the Lord's Day for over 2000 years to help His people grow through the simple means of grace like sitting under good teaching and preaching, praying and fellowshiping with others, and singing! These are just a few of the ordinary means of grace that we experience each week at Cornerstone that God uses to help us grow!

  • Consider adding Wednesday night Foundations, a small group, or women's Bible study into your routines. These are just another way you can grow with God's people throughout the week.

  • Plug into a ministry. Maybe you've never consistently served somewhere at the church. Find something that excites you and pour into it. If you need help finding something, ask an elder or pastor to help you.

  • My last idea is one I hope you will consider. Pick one book of the Bible and try to master it this year. It can be a large book or a small book, but just pick one that you want to know more about. Read and re-read the book throughout the year. Pick different verses from the book and memorize them. Maybe buy a solid, reformed commentary to help you go in-depth with the book. If you need a suggestion for a good commentary, email me, or another pastor, and we would LOVE to make some recommendations.

I hope these suggestions will be an encouragement to you as we begin a new year. Merry Christmas to you all! It is a joy to be your friend and pastor, and it is a joy to worship Christ our incarnate King with you!

See you Sunday!

by His grace and to His praise,

Pastor Wilson
