Newsletter December 5, 2025
Dear Church Family and Friends,
This Sunday is an important and momentous time in the life of Cornerstone as we will ordain and install new elders and deacons. This occasion is one of those times when it feels like the church is being the church. It is a solemn and reverent occasion as men will take vows and be ordained through the laying on of hands. We are truly doing something biblical, just like we see in Acts 6 when the first deacons were ordained and installed in the early church. “These they set before the apostles, and they prayed and laid their hands on them.” (Acts 6:6 ESV)
These are the vows that the new elders and deacons will take that come from the Book of Church Order, chapter 24:
Do you believe the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, as originally given, to be the inerrant Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice?
Do you sincerely receive and adopt the Confession of Faith and the Catechisms of this Church, as containing the system of doctrine taught in the Holy Scriptures; and do you further promise that if at any time you find yourself out of accord with any of the fundamentals of this system of doctrine, you will, on your own initiative, make known to your Session the change which has taken place in your views since the assumption of this ordination vow?
Do you approve of the form of government and discipline of the Presbyterian Church in America, in conformity with the general principles of biblical polity?
Do you accept the office of ruling elder (or deacon, as the case may be) in this church, and promise faithfully to perform all the duties thereof, and to endeavor by the grace of God to adorn the profession of the Gospel in your life, and to set a worthy example before the Church of which God has made you an officer?
Do you promise subjection to your brethren in the Lord?
Do you promise to strive for the purity, peace, unity and edification of the Church?
Additionally, members of Cornerstone will be asked to take a vow: Do you, the members of Cornerstone, acknowledge and receive these brothers as a ruling elders and deacons, and do you promise to yield to them all that honor, encouragement and obedience in the Lord to which their office, according to the Word of God and the Constitution of this Church, entitles them?
The ordination and installation will take place in the first service only. These men will be recognized and prayed over in the second service. Please continue to pray for these men and their ministry.
A few other items to note:
A photographer will be present to capture some of the life of this important day. These pictures will also be used to update our website at our new church home.
There are some additional Advent Resources in the Gathering Room that we encourage you to pick up. There is a family Advent devotion (Promises Made, Promises Kept) that does not begin until a week before Christmas.
Be sure to RSVP for the Christmas Eve Lessons and Carols service. We want to make sure we can accommodate everyone!
Be on the lookout for a communication about the 2026 Summer Mission Trips. We need those interested to let us know so the trip leaders can begin planning.
See you Sunday!
by His grace and to His praise,
Pastor Wilson
