Psalms of the Nativity - Our Advent Series, begins this Sunday, November 30.
Dear Church Family and Friends,
This past week, Cornerstone held an election for new officers to serve our church. By God's grace, all twelve men were elected by an overwhelming majority. Praise God for His provision! Please continue to pray for these men and their families.
On Sunday, December 7, the men will be ordained and installed as elders and deacons during the first service. If you have never been a part of a service like this, you are in for a treat! It is a solemn and reverent thing when hands are laid on them, they are prayed over, and set apart for Gospel ministry and Gospel leadership. You can read all about these important steps that will take place in the BCO, chapter 24.
This Sunday begins the first Sunday of Advent. What is Advent? The word Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, which means "the coming.” The Christian Season of Advent starts four weeks before Christmas and serves as a time of preparation and celebration for the birth of Jesus. Advent looks back at the incarnation but looks forward to the second coming of our Lord. Advent is all about anticipation. There is no better way to “anticipate” Christ than to spend time in worship as a community of believers.
As we prepare for the Advent season, I want to leave you with this meditation. It is from Thomas Watson's famous work, A Body of Divinity.
He was poor that He might make us rich.
He was born of a virgin that we might be born of God.
He took our flesh that He might give us His Spirit.
He lay in the manger that we might lie in paradise.
He came down from heaven that he might bring us up to heaven ...
that the Ancient of Days should be born,
that He who thunders in the heavens should cry in the cradle,
that He who rules the stars should suck the breasts,
that a virgin should conceive,
that Christ should be made of a woman, and of that woman which Himself made,
that the branch should bear the vine,
that the mother should be younger than the child she bore, and that the child in the womb bigger than the mother,
that the human nature should not be God, yet one with God:
this was not only amazing but miraculous!
See you Sunday!
by His grace and to His praise,
Pastor Wilson
